Our Father

by Glynis M. Belec

           Our Father...

I know you are my Father because fathers love unconditionally, show mercy without question and 'wait up' until a child comes home.

Who art in heaven...
I sometimes wonder about heaven. When I do, my mind wanders to unimaginable, lofty heights where time is not of the essence but rather where the aroma of eternity pervades.

Hallowed be Thy Name...
When I hear people utter Oh My God as an oath not designed to glorify and declare the magnificence of You - I die a little in my soul. Your name is sacred and silk-white.

Thy kingdom come...
When we endure the blood-tight grip of the world's puny master, I long for, hunger for, hope for Your return.

Thy will be done...
I have learned my penchant for control is as kindling when it comes to the power and purpose of your intention.

On earth as it is in heaven...
Forgive me for forgetting to be still and know. Truly my soul desires to serve you but sometimes I overlook the breathing of Your Spirit.

Give us this day our daily bread...
Lord, have I ever really been needy? I scourge my deepest link with humanity as I ponder my self-regard.

And forgive us our trespasses...
How does such Magnificence bend down, pick up a solitary sinner like me uttering sweet clemency and compassion.

As we forgive those who trespass against us...
My words - fiery darts seeking retribution, retaliation, reprisal; Lord take away my veil of resentment and fill me with an inch of love for those who offend me.

And lead us not into temptation...
The world beckons me to participate and poison courses through my veins. Teach me to turn away simply, solely because of the pure example of Jesus.

But deliver us from evil.
Take the pain, Lord. You know the journey and the road ahead. The shield, the sword, the helmet - help me zip up my armour to face the battle.

For thine is the kingdom...
YOU are the King of kings. Lord of lords. Mighty God...why does my brain seem addled about spiritual matters sometimes? Help me seek You, alone - true Royalty.

And the power...
One day, the earth will cease to breathe. You came to seek and to save the lost. All of humankind will one day seek Your face. I try. I fall yet I truly see the supremacy of Your Word.

And the glory...
All glory, laud and honour to you, Redeeming King.

For ever...
May my faith be tested and found true.

And ever.
You are the Alpha, the Omega; the Beginning, the End.

Amen.
I love you Lord. And I need You, Lord. May it be a sweet, sweet, sound in Your ear...

Thank you Glynis, for providing this meditation on our Lord's priority in prayer for us.
Although brief, it arises from the depth of experience and holy desire, tried in the fire . . .
