Last night, the Ottawa Christian Writers’ Fellowship held our festive fundraiser on behalf of the national office of The Word Guild and of our local April conference at the home of retired MP David Kilgour. The meet was enjoyed by all, including and especially the treasurer (me).
Part of the fun was the trivia contest, where Bible verses were inserted into the bottoms of 24 mugs full of candy, hot chocolate packets, etc., to ease the pain of deadlines and writer’s block for the writer/friend or family of a writer.
Here are the verses; we can all meditate on the ones that mean the most to us:
The Word of the Lord: My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. – Psalm 45:1
The Word of the Lord: The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. – Proverbs 18:4
The Word of the Lord: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15
The Word of the Lord: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. – Philippians 4:8
The Word of the Lord: Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. – 1 Peter 4:10-11
The Word of the Lord: It seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus. – Luke 1:3
The Word of the Lord: You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men. – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3
The Word of the Lord: He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD. – Psalm 40:3
The Word of the Lord: Then Jeremiah chanted a lament for Josiah. And all the male and female singers speak about Josiah in their lamentations to this day. And they made them an ordinance in Israel; behold, they are also written in the Lamentations. – 2 Chronicles 35:25
The Word of the Lord: Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book! – Job 19:23
The Word of the Lord: Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. – Proverbs 3:3
The Word of the Lord: This will be written for the generation to come, That a people yet to be created may praise the LORD. – Psalm 102:18

Thanks Denyse. Inspiring words for writers, indeed! Some of my favourite verses are in there. An early magazine article of mine from almost forty years ago was based on Psalm 45:1 (I have neither the MS nor the published piece now. Maybe just as well - could be embarrassing! lol). ~~+~~
